EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio – A man was seriously injured when a wrong-way driver struck his vehicle after a pursuit by East Cleveland police early Saturday on Interstate 90, East Cleveland police say.© cleveland.com file East Cleveland police terminated a pursuit after a man entered the highway on I-90 going the wrong way on Saturday October 23, 2021.
The crash happened on the Shoreway just after 12 a.m.
During the pursuit, the suspect got off on I-90 at East 185th Street, and then returned to the highway heading West in the east bound lanes. At that point, East Cleveland police said they stopped the pursuit and contacted Cleveland police and the Ohio Highway Patrol, East Cleveland Police Chief Scott Gardner said.
While traveling the wrong way on I-90, the suspect then hit another vehicle and continued to drive, according to an East Cleveland police report. Paramedics administered aid to the victim from the other vehicle, and transported him to a hospital. The man’s condition was unknown Saturday afternoon. Cleveland police said he was 30 years old.
No arrests have been made.
The suspect was driving a gray Ford Focus that was possibly stolen out of Middleburg Heights.
Speeds reached as high as 90 mph during the chase, police said.
